Camco Olympian 5500

Ideal for RV and outdoor use, the Camco Olympian 5500 is lightweight and easy to install.  It has a 175-square-inch cooking area. The stainless steel grill comes with a cast iron smoker plate to help infuse your food with flavor while minimizing flare-ups.  The burner is made of rust-resistant stainless steel.  It heats up the grill quickly without using too much fuel.

Fuel Options

A quick-connect hose and valve that comes with the unit can be attached to your RV’s propane supply.  The Olympian 5500 can also be used with disposable propane cylinders or a 20-lb propane tank, sold separately.  An accessory hose must be purchased if you want to use propane cylinders or tanks.

Versatile Mounting Bracket

The multi-purpose mounting bracket is a very convenient feature of the Olympian 5500.  If your RV or trailer comes with mounting rail, the grill can be attached to it and locked into place.

If you want to use the grill outdoors, the mounting bracket can be set on a table or any flat surface.  The bracket also comes with adjustable rubber bumpers to help level and balance the grill.

Other Features

A built-in temperature gauge on the lid allows you to monitor the heat inside the grill for superior cooking results.  You can control the amount of heat by adjusting the knob on the right side of the grill.  In addition, the grill has vents on the sides to channel heat away from your RV.

The cast iron smoker plate vaporizes drippings and minimizes grease fires while providing intense flavors to your grilled foods.  The grill also comes with a drain pan to catch excess drippings.

Easy to Assemble and Use

The grill comes partially assembled and only requires minimal assembly.  It comes with all the parts needed to connect the grill to your RV’s propane supply.  If you plan to use the grill with a 20-lb propane tank or 1-lb disposable cylinder, you will need the Camco Quick-connect propane hose or Quick-connect throwaway propane hose.  Both are sold separately.

What Customers Say

The Camco Olympian 5500 may not be perfect but it’s a decent grill for the price.  Many customers like it because it’s small and compact yet provides enough cooking area.  It’s also lightweight and easy to mount on an RV or use on a tabletop.  According to some customers, the grill is cost effective because it can be connected to the RV’s propane supply.

While the overall design is good, a few customers reported that the build quality could be better.  Some welding spots came loose easily or broke apart.  A few customers also found rough or sharp edges in some parts of the grill.  And although the grill is stainless steel, it becomes dark and discolored after a few uses.

The Olympian 5500 is not a top-of-the-line grill but it is more than adequate for most grilling needs and is ideal for use on an RV.  It heats up quickly and cooks evenly.  If you don’t want to spend too much on an outdoor grill, you may want to check out the Olympian 5500.
